About us

The workgroup radio technology at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) is fully focused on amateur radio. Because the study courses are often very theory oriented, we looked for a way to create some balance. A big focus is our radio station with its corresponding antennas at the MTI-building. Our amateur radio callsign is DF0UK (UK for university of Karlsruhe). With this we are ready to transmit and receive on most frequencies of the shortwave bands (1.8-30 MHz), the "magic band" 6m (50 MHz), as well as VHF at 144 MHz.

We further wish to remember the discoverer of electromagnetic waves, Heinrich R. Hertz, who did his phenomenal discoveries at our university. Without him, amateur radio, but also today's communication society, would be unthinkable.

A short history of our station has been written by founding member Uwe, DF2IR. It can be found here (German file).

Lastly we want our activities to carry the name of KIT beyond the borders of Europe into the whole work. The group has existed since 1980 and is mainly composed of students.

Have we made you interested? Then come over to one of our meetings in the station that are announced here on our website. If you're already a licensed radio amateur feel free to call on 145.525 MHz FM, maybe someone is in the shack.

Wir freuen uns immer über Besuch. Bis bald!
