Since December 2025, the Radio Technology Working Group at KIT has been the owner of the club station call sign “DK1T” – based on “D KIT.” Since it is a short call sign with only four characters, it is particularly suitable for use in contests, and it is easy to understand in both telegraphy and SSB. Our previous club station call sign “DF0UK” remains assigned and will continue to be used, as will the special call sign DL200KIT, which has been assigned until the end of the year and will be used “on air” by members of the university group to mark the 200th anniversary of KIT. DF0UK im Meshcore-Netz
Seit kurzem ist ein Meshcore-Repeater an der Antennenanlage von DF0UK installiert. Dieser arbeitet vollständig autark und wird mit Solarzellen betrieben.
Das Meshcore-Netz in Karlsruhe befindet sich aktuell im Aufbau, es soll einmal das gesamte Stadtgebiet sowie alle wichtigen Außenbereiche abdecken. Meshcore baut auf dem bekannten Meshtastic LoRa Ad-hoc System auf, bietet aber einige Vorteile beim Routing und Handling von vielen Clients. Essenziell, wenn große Bereiche wie ganz Karlsruhe abgedeckt werden sollen.
Es arbeitet komplett autark, ohne Anbindung ans Internet. Daher ist es auch im Bereich der Krisenkommunikation interessant. Mit einer App aus dem iOS App Store oder Google Play Store baut man eine Bluetooth-Verbindung zu einem Client auf, welche es für wenig Geld zu kaufen gibt. Diese Companions bilden die Brücke zum Netz. Zum Beispiel können ESP32-basierte Module wie unten gezeigt verwendet werden (ca. 20 Euro).
Meshcore in Karlsruhe arbeitet auf 868 MHz, also im ISM-Band. Um teilzunehmen ist keine Amateurfunk-Lizenz erforderlich, es gilt jedoch zu beachten, dass Grenzwerte von Sendeleistung und Airtime-Faktor eingehalten werden. Dies erledigt Meshcore von alleine.

Setup of a VHF/UHF TRX for a club frequency
Yesterday, Henrik and I prepared a Kenwood TM-D700E 2m/70cm transceiver for use as a station device for our new club frequency 145.525 MHz FM. This frequency has been used regularly in the past for communication between members, and since it is usually free, the choice was easy.
The aim is to be available at the station at all times when someone is there, for example during our regular meetings. The transceiver is connected to a Diamond X300 ground plane and can therefore cover more than the entire city area. We hope this will also increase accessibility for spontaneous guests.
In the coming weeks, the TRX will be placed in its final location in the shack, directly at the operator's station.
